Walter Moorcroft for Moorcroft Pottery, a 1977 Silver Jubilee commemorative plate, tube line decorated with floral emblems of the United Kingdom reserving Royal Cypher EIIR over date 1952-1977 within laurel leaf border, impressed and painted marks to reverse, diameter 22.5cm.
Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee in 1977 was commemorated with church services throughout February, followed by a series of celebratory events across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. In May, both Houses of Parliament presented loyal addresses to the Queen, emphasising national unity as the theme of the jubilee. The Queen embarked on an extensive tour, visiting thirty six counties in the UK and travelling over 56,000 miles to countries including Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. The central celebrations took place in early June, beginning with the lighting of a bonfire beacon at Windsor Castle, initiating a chain of ninety six beacons across the country. On June 7th the Queen processed in the Gold State Coach to St. Paul's Cathedral for a Service of Thanksgiving, attended by world leaders and former British prime ministers.
