An early 19th Century Staffordshire pearlware bust of the Duke of York, polychrome enamel on pedestal base and square foot, impressed title to reverse, height 15cm.
In the 18th century, the title "Duke of York" was held by Prince Frederick Augustus, the second son of King George III and Queen Charlotte. Born on August 16, 1763, at St. James's Palace in London, Frederick was created Duke of York and Albany on November 27, 1784. He was also appointed Earl of Ulster and became a member of the Privy Council upon his return to Britain in 1787 .
