Vauxhall delft, an ‘Act of Union’ plate circa 1707, tonal blue, yellow and green painted with a rose and thistle and the initials A R - Queen Anne, diameter 22.5cm. Provenance: Sir Lincoln Hallinan Collection
Queen Anne played a pivotal role in the Acts of Union of 1707, which united the Kingdom of England and the Kingdom of Scotland into the Kingdom of Great Britain. These Acts, ratified by both the Scottish and English parliaments, established a single monarch and parliament for the newly formed kingdom, with Queen Anne becoming the first monarch of Great Britain. The Union was formalized on May 1, 1707, and the new Parliament of Great Britain first convened in October 1707.
