A mid 19th Century Killarney fold over rectangular games table, probably by James Egan (1799-1842), constructed in yew, cherry wood, arbutus and bog oak, the swivel top is inlaid with a scene of Muckross Abbey flanked by two large fern leaves within geometric bands and foliate border, opening to reveal a chess, backgammon and cribbage board and two further panels depicting an Abbey ruins and a cottage, on conforming frieze and square tapering legs, height 78cm x depth 43cm x width 79cm.
Provenance - It has been in the vendor's possession for many years. It is similar to a design once owned by Queen Victoria, held in the Royal Collection Trust.
Very minor loss of veneers to the top, some light cracking and minor veneer lifting. Crack running near back left leg to frieze but not affecting inlay. Also some minor loss to the legs
