King George III and Queen Charlotte were one of the most prominent royal couples in British history, known for their long marriage, large family, and influence during a transformative period in the 18th and early 19th centuries. George III reigned from 1760 to 1820, one of the longest reigns in British history, overseeing major events such as the American Revolution, the Napoleonic Wars, and significant changes in Britain's political and imperial structure.
He married Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz in 1761, just a few months after becoming king. Their marriage, arranged for political alliance, blossomed into a deeply affectionate and enduring partnership. Together, they had 15 children, including two future monarchs: George IV and William IV. Queen Charlotte was known for her patronage of the arts, support of botanical science (notably Kew Gardens), and dedication to family and duty.
