AMENDED DESCRIPTION A late Victorian sardonyx brooch, circa 1880, carved to depict the head and shoulders of a classical lady, which has within a plain gold mount, brooch pin fitting, total weight 27.7g, 4.5cm x 3.5cm.
The Carnelian ground is darker in colour to the centre than around the edges,
The cameo measures approximately 4cm x 2.8cm.
Carving of star to head is integral to the cameo.
There is evidence of a 'shellac type substance
around the cameo, nape of the neck and head.
Lead solder to inside of mount. Fissure to the nose
