NB - John Ayrton Paris (1785 -1856) made one of the earliest observations of occupational cancer in men working with exposure to copper smelting in the mines of Cornwall. He was elected president of the Royal College of Physicians in 1844, an office he held until his death. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in June 1821. He was an advocate of the use of scientifically assessed herbal preparations in medical treatment which he had used to treat Queen Victoria.
