A Spode-Copeland royal commemorative tyg, 1937, of three handled cylindrical form, to mark the occasion of the Coronation of George VI and Queen Elizabeth, printed decoration including Royal portraits within crowned cartouche flanked by standard bearing knights, Britannia and the Royal Coat of Arms, titled band to rim, and meandering English rose, printed marks to base and N0.58, height 14.5cm.

The coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth took place on 12 May 1937 at Westminster Abbey in London. This event followed the unexpected abdication of his brother, King Edward VIII, in December 1936, which led to George VI ascending the throne. The date had originally been set for Edward VIII's coronation, and it was decided to proceed with the ceremony for George VI and his consort, Elizabeth, on the same day.
