£600
An early 20th Century enamel advertising sign for 'Laughton C. Goodwin & Co. Midland Distributors, Hudson Super Six & Essex Cars, George St. Kidderminster and at Birmingham', height 121cm and width 244cm, S/D.
NB - The Essex Motor Company produced motor cars between 1918 and 1922 and the Essex was then produced by the Hudson Motor Car Company between 1922 and 1933. Laughton Goodwin & Co was probably most memorably advertised in Kidderminster by the company logo that was painted across what is now the Severn Valley Railway bridge, with the faded lettering of the logo still visible today.
Provenance - This sign was discovered as a 'barn find' in the local Wyre Forest area.
Corrosion and enamel losses all over. Also holed in places. There is a triangular section of the sign missing from the bottom left hand corner due to corrosion. There has been no later over-painting. A genuine local 'barn find'.
