An early 20th Century Staffordshire royal commemorative plaque, circa 1902, oval form with shaped foliate moulded border, printed decoration depicting 'The Coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, 1902', height 32cm.
The Coronation of King Edward VII took place on August 9, 1902, at Westminster Abbey in London. Originally scheduled for June 26, the ceremony was postponed when Edward fell seriously ill with appendicitis just days before. After a successful operation—an early triumph for modern surgery—the coronation went ahead later that summer. Edward VII, the son of Queen Victoria, was crowned alongside his wife, Queen Alexandra, marking the beginning of the Edwardian era.
