£250
An early 19th Century commemorative plaque depicting George IV, possibly Portobello Pottery, Scotland, relief moulded with a front facing portrait above a garland with hand enamelled flowers, set within a simulated ceramic frame, polychrome enamel in blue yellow, green and rose pink, width 22.5cm.
The Prince Regent became King George IV and was no more popular as monarch than as prince, so few commemorative ceramics were produced. This particular plaque marked his visit to Scotland in 1822.
Free from damage, some age related wear.
